II. Programming Satellites

1) After plugging in the receiver, the display will briefly show two boxes and three 8's, followed by 'WM UP.' The warm up process may take a few moments before the receiver is ready to turn on. Programming satellites is performed through the use of the remote control, so insert the two supplied AA batteries into the remote. (Figs 2.1 & 2.2)

2) After warm up, turn on the receiver. Press OPTIONS, 6, 4, Enter on remote. Select YES to allow dish movement for updates. (Fig 2.3 - Installation Settings Screen)

3) Select 'Change Dish Settings' (Fig. 2.4) through your remote (arrow keys or 2). Select either Linear West (customers east of the Mississippi River. ) or Linear East (customers west of the Mississippi River).

4) Select 'LNB Type.' Use the left/right arrow keys on the remote to scroll through the types of LNB's to find the correct configuration (usually C-band LNB)

5). Press GO BACK on the remote & select 'Set Limits.' On the Installation Settings screen (Fig. 2.5)

6). The "Set Limits" screen should appear. Do not change the satellite limits at this point. Instead, select "Program Satellites" to begin programming G1. (Fig 2.6)

7) Use arrow keys on remote to highlight G1& press ENTER. (Fig 2.7 - Satellite Screen)

8). A menu which adjusts the satellite position and skew should appear. (Fig 2.8)

9). Turn to Ch. 11 by scrolling to the channel or entering the channel number and pushing enter on the remote. This channel, EWTN should appear. You may need to adjust the dish position and the skew to improve the picture quality. Press 'Go Back' on the remote and save the dish position by pressing ENTER

10). The menu displaying the satellite names will show G1 checked and highlighted. Press ENTER to go to G1 again. Select channel 12. You should see Shop NBC on the screen if subscribed or a message saying you are not subscribed. If picture is not clear, adjust the dish position or skew to tune in the channel manually or use the "AutoPeak Dish" and "AutoPeak Skew". After adjustments have been made, select "Go Back" then ENTER to save the settings. (Fig 2.9)

11) Press "Exit" on the remote to leave programming mode and turn to channel 3. A message should appear that says "Cannot find channel, continuing to search" and a green "DC" light should light up on the DSR922. (Fig 2.10)

12) Press Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 5 (Data Screen), ENTER on the remote control to display the Data screen. Let the unit sit for about 30 minutes to "map in" all the channels. The channel count number should begin increasing slowly from approx. 570 to approx. 4600. Once the channel count number stabilizes, all of the channels for the DSR922 will be mapped. (Fig 2.11)

13) Call NPS (800-444-3474) and ask them to authorize the new 4DTV. They will ask for the Unit ID number to begin processing the account and will send a 'hit' to the satellite. The trip counter will increase 5 numbers indicating the satellite has been authorized to receive programming. The clock time should be correct & free digital channels & subscription channels on G0 should be turned on.

14) This is also a good time to download the IPG (Interactive Programming Guide). Press "Guide" on the remote and hold down for approximately 10 seconds. Press "Info" in order for the IPG to come in more quickly. At this point, the NPS agent will end communication and more satellites can be programmed. The IPG will assist in programming satellites by displaying the Satellite, Channel, and Station ID on the TV.

15) Select Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 4 (Change Installation Settings), 3 (Set Limits) and begin setting the Western Limit. In order to prevent the dish from going off the ends of the actuator, it is best to be conservative when setting this limit. The limit will be different for each user, so increasing the limit west (right on arrow keys) 50 units or so is a safe increment. It is also a good idea to check the satellite dish at this time to insure that the dish is moving west as you set your limits. If the satellite dish moves to the east when pressing the right button, the actuator cables have been reversed and you will need to power off the unit and switch the wiring. Contact NPS or a local satellite dealer for help if uncomfortable with moving Limits. Once the satellite limit has been reached, select 'Go Back.' Press Exit and the blue 'SAT' button to move the satellite back to G1.

16) Select Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 4 (Change Installation Settings), 3(Set Limits), 3(Program Satellites), Enter to program the next satellite. Select satellite C4, which is the satellite immediately to the west of G1. Select Channel 3 and move to the satellite position selection. Push the right arrow key to increase the 4 digit Dish Position until the subscription feed Nickelodeon appears. Tune in the channel by modifying the Satellite position and skew in order to obtain an optimal resolution. Select "Go Back" to save the channel.

17) Now you can program all of the satellites in one at a time by selecting Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 4 (Change Installation Settings), 3 (Set Limits) , 3 (Program Satellites) ,ENTER. If a message received that the limits have been reached, Press "Go Back" and cancel to get back to the Set Limits screen. Increase your limits accordingly until you reach the next western most satellite, which is W7, which you may know used to be called F1 or C1.

18) The DSR922 should be able to predict the location of the remaining satellites. The Satellite Location Screen will provide a option to 'Move Dish to XXXX.' The accuracy of this option increases with the amount of satellites programmed and saved. The locations of the satellites can also be manually extrapolated. For example, if G0 is programmed in at 5000, and G5 is found to be located at 5020 on your dish, then the next satellite, G9 (Galaxy 13) should be at approximately 5040, etc. These position numbers are for illustration. Actual numbers will be different.

19) After finding W7 & storing in that last satellite, go to the SET LIMITS screen & program in the West Limit to be about 3 counts higher than W7 position.

20) Now, the satellites east of G1 can be programmed. Follow the same instructions for programming easterly satellites that were used for programming westerly satellites. Remember to set the East Limit as needed to include all the satellites that need to be programmed.

21) After storing the easternmost Satellite W9 into memory, go to the set Limits screen & set the East limit about 2 or 3 counts lower than W9’s position. You are now finished programming your new 4dtv and are ready to enjoy many relaxing hours of entertainment.
